Our sales figures demonstrate just how popular our approach is: in 2025, we and our 3,000 dedicated SPORT 2000 stores achieved total sales of €5.3 billion. We are an association of sports retail experts. As part of an international group, each one of our retailers has access to exclusive brands under excellent conditions. In addition, our collective expertise is enhanced and our retail group is strengthened by the unique skills brought by each individual member. SPORT 2000 retailers are perfectly integrated into their regions and, thanks to their in-depth understanding of their customers' needs, they have a strong relationship with their customers. What differentiates us is that our retailers communicate directly with their sports-loving customers and understand their unique training goals.

History

  1. 1966

    The purchasing group was founded in France through a merger of 36 retailers 

  2. 1970

    Zentrasport International is launched. 

  3. 1972

    Sports retailers join forces to create Zentralgruppe Einkauf, a central purchasing group in Austria and the forerunner of SPORT 2000. 

  4. 1979

    Fachsport-International, the forerunner of SPORT 2000 Germany, is established. 

  5. 1982

    Expansion, particularly in winter sports resorts (SPORT 2000 Montagne). 

  6. 1988

    Golden Team International, the forerunner of SPORT 2000 International in Switzerland, is established. 

  7. 1990 – 1995

    The International Alliance of National Organizations in Germany and Austria joins forces with the French group to operate under the name SPORT 2000. 

    Expansion into BENELUX. 
First store opened in the Netherlands with Belgium following in 2018. 

  8. 2000

    The ski rental business launches in Austria. SPORT 2000 partners have since then internationalized the rental concept, bringing it to France, Italy, and Switzerland. SPORT 2000 rent now has more than 600 rental locations, making it one of the largest ski rental organizations in Europe’s ski resorts. 

  9. 2002

    The “Sports & Fashion” concept drives expansion in city centres and shopping centres. 

  10. 2005

    SPORT 2000 Schweiz AG (Switzerland) is established as a subsidiary of SPORT 2000 Germany. 

  11. 2009

    SPORT DEPOT becomes the official partner of SPORT2000 for Bulgaria and Greece. 

  12. 2011

    Fair Play International: the sports members come to SPORT 2000. 

  13. 2013

    The Red Eagles are born:  the SPORT 2000 Ski Jump team is created. They will compete till the 2017/2018 season. 

  14. 2018

    Creation of the ABSOLUTE retail concepts in the RUN and TEAMSPORT categories which is part of a retail strategy focused on sports specialists. 

  15. 2021

    Further expansion into new markets: opening of the first MCR Store Concept in Mauritius. 

  16. 2022

    “Home of Experts” is launched as the global claim of SPORT 2000 International.  WITEBLAZE, the exclusive brand of SPORT 2000, is launched. 

  17. 2025

    New logo launch and renaming of the buying group: SPORT 2000 Group International encompasses the retail formats: SPORT 2000 Generalist Format, ABSOLUTE Run and ABSOLUTE TEAMSPORT. 

  18. 2026

    Poland joins the Group.
